Plecostomous question?

ok so i was able to tell that my male wanted to mate with my femaale but my male is only like 3 or 4 inches and my female is a little over 1 foot long so how are they gonna mate hes still young to matre but he is insisting to mate?should i just let him mate.he just seems way to young to mate
